Workplace Violence and Intimidation

Workplace violence is any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behavior at the workplace. It ranges from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and even homicide. In fact, homicide is currently the 4th leading cause of occupational injuries in the U.S., and it is the number one cause of death at the workplace for women.

One of the best protections employers can establish to protect workers is a zero tolerance policy towards workplace violence. Employers can also put in place Workplace Violence Prevention programs. OSHA believes that a well written and implemented Violence Prevention program can significantly reduce workplace violence in both the private sector and the federal workplaces.
